The Nottingham poker player edged out 531 participants in the Hungarian capital while Ciprian Hrisca from Romania took the second spot. Hrisca lost to Fry in the heads-up play.
The poker player said that he will use his winnings to help out his family, make a donation to charity, and pay his mortgage. He claimed that he has been playing poker since birth.
Fry has cashed at 6 previous EPT events but had never made a final table before the Hungary tournament. The European Poker Tour is Fry's first major live event. His first prize also gives him a chance to participate at the European Poker Tour's Grand Finals in Monte Carlo which is set to happen in April 2009. The event's grand prize is around 12,800 USD.
A total of 71 Hungarians participated in the event which took place at the Sofitel Hotel in Budapest. The 4-day poker event attracted many of the domestic poker scene's top players and several players from every corner of the globe.
