How to Play Texas Hold'em
This is the most popular and widely played version of poker and the most interesting to both watch and play. This game uses community cards which are placed in the middle of the table for all to use.
- Blind bets: The first player sitting to the left of the dealer puts in the small blind and the next player to the left puts in the big blind (double the small blind).
- Deal 2 cards: The dealer deals two cards each – called hole cards – always face down.
- Bet, raise or fold: The first player to make a move is the one sitting to the left of the big blind (so three seats from the dealer). Check out hole cards and choose to bet, raise or fold. Other players then follow suit in a clockwise direction.
- The Flop: Three community cards are dealt face up in the centre of the table. Players can use a combination of hole and community cards to form their best ranked hand.
- Betting round: Each player decides to bet, check or fold.
- The Turn: The fourth community card is dealt face up, called the Turn.
- Betting round: Each player decides to bet, check or fold.
- The River: The fifth community card is dealt face up, called the River.
- Final betting round: After all bets have been made, cards are revealed and the best hand wins the pot.
